National Artists Gain Exposure and Education at Vegas Music Summit
By: Jamar Jones
Sometimes opportunity can be right under
your nose. And for others, many miles in between. The 1st
Annual Music Summit provided up and coming independent artists
the chance to not only perform in
front of many industry elites, but also rub elbows and pick their brains for information.
The summit was
held on June 28th-30th at the Xclusive Ultra Lounge in Las Vegas. The first night of the meet and greet,
many artist did not know what to expect. Coming from areas such as Atlantic City, Texas, Chicago, San
Diego, as well
as Las Vegas, the anticipation to perform in front of a new audience and many industry
heads was what most of the artist
came to do. Little did they know, the knowledge that was also in the
building, made the summit an unforgettable event.
Among the notable elite, Charlie Mac of www.whosthehottestrapper.com, Hanoi Rabago A&R of
Slip and Slide
Records, “Rap” Straws- National Mixshow Director at Universal Records, media exec
Michael Elliot, 8 year
old DJ Baby Chino, and renown DJ MC Nate. They talked to the artist about BMI/
ASCAP royalties, making sure you are getting
paid for your work, distribution, marketing, choosing the
best song for your market, and how to really grind in the music
industry. Over three hours’ worth of
conversation; a lifetime worth of knowledge and wisdom. The artists took part
in a rather intimate
discussion, with the elite providing a ray of hope for the artist looking to move to the next level.
The artists included: Novacane and Natalia B- San Antonio (TX), Trey Ward- Houston (TX), Yung Boi -
Tyler (TX),
Spaceship Ohayses- Dallas (TX), Gutta Stacks and The Chosen- San Diego, Nea Roz- Las Vegas
(NV), Young Chef -Atlantic
City (NJ), and the eventual grand prize winners of the Summit 2M Connect
from Dallas TX, who won a distribution deal
for their amazing performance. Also at the Grand Finale
were hip hop veteran Dulamite and the guest host, Mr. Krimson.
The 1st Annual music summit was an opportunity for independent artist to get the opportunity they look
for. To
be able to come together, with other artist from other parts of the world and network. Compare
notes continue to grind
as hard as possible to be the best. With the inclusion of the industry elites, the
knowledge and wisdom they willingly
gave each of these artists made this summit a well-rounded event.
CEO and Summit Coordinator Kizzy Courtney says more
surprises will be on the way next year. They
say whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Well the 1st Annual Music
Summit will be talked about
nationwide for the foreseeable future.
